End-of-year Round-Up

Naturally, at this time of year, we reflect on our performance in what has been another challenging year for the business and the team here at Tamar Caravan Centre. We are pleased to report that despite the global pandemic, we have had a successful year. By mid-July, we were extremely low on stock, particularly our very own Mayflower Caravan by Swift, which has been extremely popular since its launch in 2020.

The supply and demand challenge, spread not only from caravans and motorhomes, but also across our leisure shop, and we certainly learned some valuable lessons with regards to supplier relationships and supply chains in general. We understand that in some cases running out of product lines would not have normally happened, and we certainly didn’t enjoy informing customers of this fact. The issues with the global supply-chain became very relevant to us as we found failed delivery dates and constant movement of delivery dates frustrating. I wish to convey my apologies to those customers who were affected by delayed deliveries into our dealership. The team did work extremely hard, and I would like to place on record, my sincere thanks to them all.

As with any business, change is inevitable and in July, we said goodbye to Simon Graham, our Service Director. After a decade with Tamar, Simon has left us for pastures new – to set up his own property maintenance business. We’d like to thank Simon for 10 wonderful years, and wish him the very best of luck with his new venture!

We’re delighted to announce that Stephen Humphries has taken on the role of Workshop Controller. Having worked here for several years as a caravan engineer, Stephen is a valued member of the team and knows the business inside out – so you can be assured our fantastic service and high quality of work will remain unchanged! Stephen is supported by Jason Ingram, who celebrates 9 years in the business and continues to head up the Aftersales team. He is the first point of contact for workshop related tasks.

With the accessories shop continuing to grow online and in-store, we were pleased to recruit Richard Oldfield to the team in September. Richard has worked in management positions for several large national companies including Go Outdoors and Evans Cycles. We look forward to working with Richard to further develop our accessories shop – keep your eyes peeled for more information in the New Year!

2021 was the launch of our first year venturing into the Motorhome world, and we have been delighted with the feedback received from customers who purchased the Pilote products from us. This relationship continues to grow – not without supply-chain challenges, but we are looking forward to more products arriving soon. Pilote produce over 12,500 Motorhomes and Van conversions including a NEW simplified product called JOA Camp.  We are fortunate enough to have display models already in our showroom. Pop in and speak with Ian and his Team who will be happy to show you around.

During the early part of 2021 we also invested in two high specification VW Campervans which are available to hire through our website Trail Blazer Camper Hire. These are perfect for trips into Cornwall or further afield, and provide a comfortable experience for four people. We have received great reviews for this service and hope to build on this moving into 2022…Watch this space!

In other news, we have made a significant sponsorship deal with Plymouth Argyle, as they continue to climb the football league whilst also helping us to showcase local business. On the 5th February 2022, we will be displaying products at Home Park, and are also privileged to be the match-day shirt sponsor. Have you seen our signs at Home Park? We wish Argyle great success for the rest of the season.

We were honoured to have been present at the ‘Hugs for Henry’ ball, which raised vital funds for this wonderful local charity. Whether it be emotional support, making a memory or helping families keep in touch, ‘Hugs From Henry’ provides them with a place to turn to.

In addition to this, we have supported the ‘Roborough Round Table’ and their ‘Sleigh Committee’ with maintenance of their Santa Sleigh, which will be visiting the local area/shops to raise vital funds for the charity.

So, whist we prepare for our annual shut-down, to spend some valuable time with friends and family at Christmas, our attention turns towards 2022.

As we saw in 2021, 2022 looks to continue with an unprecedented demand for leisure vehicles and their associated products, due to the continued uncertainty around foreign travel. Our product availability for 2022 is currently very good, and we are well-placed, with a wide variety of product to offer.

End-of-year-round-up -Christmas Message - Tamar Caravan Centre

Christmas Opening Times: We will be closed from 1pm on the 23rd December 2021, until 8am on 4th January, 2022.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, old and new, as pandemic or not – we would not have been able to make plans, if the business was not supported as well as it has been.

We would like to wish all of our customers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
